Vaisakhi Festival 🎊

The children experienced some activities around the Vaisakhi Festival.

Vaisakhi celebrates the founding of the Sikh community. It involves lots of singing, wearing colourful clothes and eating a special meal with friends.

The children played with a masala chai station and explored lots of different spices in the tuff tray. This gave practitioners the opportunity to extend their language around different smells and colours as well as talk about different cultures ✨

Cutting and Preparing Fruit 🍎🍊🔪

Some of the most meaningful learning experiences come from the simplest everyday moments. At Amelia House Nursery, activities such as cutting and preparing fruit are thoughtfully designed to support children’s development in ways that are both practical and deeply enriching.

As children carefully slice soft fruits and practise controlled hand movements, they are developing essential fine motor skills that form the foundation for later writing. These small, purposeful actions strengthen hand muscles, improve coordination, and support the confident grip needed for holding pens and pencils.

Exploring the Outdoors 🍃

Our children embraced the joy of outdoor exploration at the City Island playground - one of our regular walk destinations. Guided by our nursery practitioners, they developed essential skills in climbing, balancing and spatial awareness while growing in confidence and independence.

Baking Blueberry Cookies 🫐🍪

The children carried out a baking activity and made blueberry cookies together.

The children measured ingredients, developing their understanding of quantity, and explored mixing butter and egg, observing how the ingredients changed as they combined.

They shaped the dough with their hands, strengthening fine motor skills and coordination while shaping their cookies.

Throughout the activity, the children followed simple instructions, developed independence, and demonstrated confidence as they took part.

A throwback outing to the Science Museum 🚀

The children experienced an AMAZING visit to the Science Museum in London, where they engaged with a range of interactive exhibits.

The children explored sensory press buttons, observed cause and effect, and experimented with lights, sounds, and movement, developing their understanding of how their actions create change.

They encountered space simulations and observed new environments, sparking curiosity and early enquiry. Through role play, the children imagined themselves as astronauts and expressed themselves through dressing up.

Throughout the outing, the children collaborated, shared ideas, and developed independence in a busy environment.

Maybe we will have inspired some future scientists and astronauts 🫣🤭

Meet Mr Tim Tim - Our Outing Bear 🧸🦺

The children went on a walk in the local environment with Mr Tim Tim, our Health and Safety advisor – “bear in mind, safety first!” 😊

The children learned about simple road safety routines as they walked together, turning on their listening ears, staying aware of their surroundings, and moving carefully in a line. The children showed lots of confidence in being outside the nursery in the care of familiar adults. As they took part in the walk they followed simple instructions and routines.

Sharing experiences together like this deepen the children’s bonds with each other and the adults who take care of them. Shared experiences are a powerful way for children to grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually ✨
